Current patho-mechanic models of neuromuscular spinal deformities – different approaches to neuro-orthoses for the trunk

The treatment and prevention of neurogenic spinal deformities pose a major challenge to the therapeutic team. If there is insufficient muscle stabilization or postural control restrictions, the spine deforms into its bony stops. Decisions to intervene are often made too late. In this lecture a short overview of current theoretic models of the development of spinal deformities is given and proposals for derived interventions are critically examined. The goal is to improve the child's ability to perform activities in the context of daily life.
